What 2 Watch 4

Here are three things you can expect to see today on your College Football Saturday.

LSU Scoring Points

The Tigers should be able to score early and often in their match-up with North Carolina tonight in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game.

The Tar Heels made the trip to Atlanta without 13 players due to an ongoing investigation by the NCAA, seven of which were projected starters coming into the season.

Touted as one of the best defenses heading into 2010, UNC will be shorthanded on that side of the ball against LSU.

Starting defensive ends Michael McAdoo and Robert Quinn, starting defensive tackle Marvin Austin, starting cornerbacks Charles Brown and Kedric Burney and starting safety Deunta Williams were named either ineligible or withheld, and will miss at least this game.

To give you a little perspective on the impact this might have on UNC's defense tonight, the missing defensive players accounted for 55% of the Tar Heels' total tackles last year, 59% of their tackles for a loss, 60% of their fumble recoveries and 84% of their interceptions.

This just may get ugly...er for North Carolina.

On the flip-side, if LSU manages to lose, Tigers' coach Les Miles' seat will warm up in a hurry.

The Wazzou Flag

It's a phenomenon that began in 2003 when Washington State grad Tom Pounds took the suggestion that a Washington State flag should be on waved during an ESPN College Football Gameday Show to an unexpected level.

Now, over 100 people make up a nationwide network of people who make sure WSU is represented every Saturday during ESPN's on-location college football show.

The flag relay has inspired a non-profit corporation - the "Ol' Crimson Booster Club" - that's raised tens of thousands of dollars to cover flag-wavers' expenses.

See if you can spot it today.

Jeremiah Masoli

The former Oregon Duck-turned-Ole Miss Rebel quarterback's on again-off again dance with the NCAA is on again.

Just three days ago the NCAA ruled that Masoli - who was dismissed from the Ducks earlier this year - had to sit out a season before enrolling at Ole Miss.

The Rebels appealed that decision and announced Friday that an NCAA subcommittee had overturned the prior ruling.

Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said sophomore Nathan Stanley will start against Jacksonville State today.

However, you have to wonder just how long Nutt will be able to resist the temptation to get the former Heisman Trophy candidate on the field.

  1. Proud to be a Tarheel despite the loss.

  2. You absolutely should be Tarheel Paul.

That has to go down as one of the gutsiest "losses" of the season when all is said and done.

  3. Agreed, Lsu didnt finish and the tar heels made a ton of plays without a full squad. They should build off the loss and put together a good year

  4. The Tarheels should be proud of themselves!! Gutsy loss is right, I was on the edge of my seat!! So, Mike what did you think of Michigan's win? Looks like Rich Rod has found his man for that offense of his. Shoelace!! Go Blue!!

  5. I actually picked Meeeeshigan to win, and I agree, Rich Rod seems to have found a closer Pat White-like fit for his offense in Ann Arbor.
Frankly, I was more impressed with the D.
Big Blue was able to score last year, they just couldn't stop anyone.
Still got a tough schedule to go, but nice start for a guy who needed a good as much as anyone in the country...the seat went down a few degrees after a big win over UConn.
